As you know, Sunday Dinner is synonymous with the times where families would come together around the dinner table and talk about topics that were important to each member of the family. For the maternal side of my biological family, those discussions often happened over a big dinner on Sunday after church. With the Sunday Family Dinner blog, it is a time for us to come together as family and talk about those topics that are important to us. Today, I want to talk about the fact that we are all apart of the human race. God reminded me of that twice today.
I believe that every person in this country and in this world has value and worth. I believe that no matter the color of the person’s skin, their ethnicity, the language they speak, their educational level, or their socioeconomic status; they have value and worth, and are part of the human race. With all of the ways that the climate in this country wants us to focus on our differences and divide us, today God reminded me that we are all apart of His human race and that is what connects us.
The first thing that happened to me today was that I got a flat tire. While driving today, I heard a popping noise and then my car started driving funny. I was able to pull over in a neighborhood in front of a house. While I was trying to get a tow truck, the father that lived in the house came out and asked if I needed help. He did not care about the color of my skin or that my ethnicity was different from his. All that mattered to him was that I was another human that needed help. He proceeded to change my tire and engaged me in conversation. He was nice and pleasant, and calmed a stressful situation for me. Not only did he help me but when his sons pulled up and saw their dad helping me, they also asked if help was needed. This lets me know that there are still good, decent people in this country and world, and that there are some people who are raising respectful, children with manners who sees us all as members of the human race. Thank you to the very nice man that changed my tire and thank you God for letting me know that there is still good in this world.
The second thing that happened after dealing with the tire and arriving at my destination, was me running into an acquaintance that I had not seen for years. The last time I saw her was at the wedding for her sister-in-law who was a friend of mine. This young lady and I are in different age categories and different races but when I saw her, she greeted me with a big hug as if we were family. We were able to catch up with one another and was happy to see that we both are doing well. Again, God reminded me that regardless of our differences we are all humans and we are connected through those things that makes us human.
I am so glad that God gave me those reminders and I hope that in this country we all remember that we are apart of the human race, and focus on what makes us similar. I hope that in this country, we stop focusing on division and hate; and focus on our similarities and the value that each person adds to this country and world. Again, thank you God for the reminders that you gave me and for showing me that there is still good in this world.
Happy to be Apart of the Human Race,
